Italy Jobless Rate Edges Down to 11.2% in August

Italy's seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell slightly to 11.2 percent in August of 2017 from 11.3 percent in July, in line with market expectations. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 42 thousand from the previous month and employment went up by 36 thousand.

There were 2.903 million unemployed people, 42 thousand less than in the previous month. In contrast, employment rose by 36 thousand to 23.124 million and those detached from the labour force declined by 9 thousand to 13.291 million.

Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, fell to 35.1 percent from 35.3 percent in July.

Italy's overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the Euro Area, edged up to 58.2 percent in August from 58.1 percent in August.
