In September of 2014, figures for both employed and unemployed people were flat at 23.1 million and 1.2 million respectively. The construction sector recorded the most significant job loss (-3.5 percent over August).
The number of people either working or looking for work decreased to 24 286 thousand in September from 24 360 thousand in August. Meanwhile, average real wage was steady at R$ 2067.1.
Among regions, the unemployment rate increased in Rio de Janeiro by 0.4 percent to 3.4 percent and fell in São Paulo to 4.5 percent from 5.1 percent in August. In the remaining regions, no changes were reported.
A year earlier, unemployment was recorded at 5.4 percent. Yet, economically active population decreased 0.96 percent year-on-year to 24 286 thousand persons in September of 2014.
