UK GDP Annual Growth at 2-Year Low


The British economy advanced 2.3 percent year-on-year in the three months to September of 2015, slowing from a 2.4 percent expansion in the previous period. It is the worst performance since the third quarter of 2013, preliminary estimates showed.

The output for electricity, gas, steam and air recorded the biggest drop (-2.2 percent), followed by manufacturing (-0.7 percent), agriculture (-0.1 percent) and construction (-0.1 percent). In contrast, mining and quarrying posted the highest increase (11.4 percent), followed by water supply and sewerage (6.9 percent), transport, storage and communication (4.6 percent), distribution, hotels and restaurants (4.5 percent) and business services and finance (3.1 percent). 

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the economy expanded 0.5 percent, below market expectations of a 0.6 percent increase.
