Italy’s Unemployment Rate Up to 12.5% in September


In September, Italian adjusted jobless rate rose to 12.5 percent from a revised 12.4 percent in August, hitting a new all time high.

The number of unemployed persons amounted to 3.2 million persons showing a 0.9 percent increase on the previous month (+29 thousand) and a 14 percent increase when compared with the previous year (+391 thousand).  

Italy's youth jobless rate also rose to a new record high at 40.4 percent compared to 40.2 percent the month before. 

The number of persons in employment amounted to 22.3 million, reporting a 0.4 percent decrease on August (-80 thousand), and a 2.1 decrease on September 2012 (-490 thousand).  The employment rate stood at 55.4 percent, down from a revised 55.6 percent in August. The inactivity rate was recorded at 36.4 percent.
