Italy Jobless Rate Rises in September

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Italy increased to 9.9 in September 2019 from an upwardly revised 9.6 percent in the previous month and well above market expectations of 9.6 percent. Unemployed people went up 3 percent while employment edged down 0.1 percent.

The number of unemployed rose by 73 thousand, or 3.0 percent from the previous month to 2.554 million in September and those detached from the labour force declined by 0.6 percent to 13.148 million, while employed edged down by 0.1 percent to 23.354 million. 

Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, rose 1.1 percent to 27.6 percent in September.

 The country's overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the Euro Area, was unchanged at 59.2 percent. The labour force participation rate rose to 65.7 percent in September from 65.6 percent in the previous month. 

On an annual basis, unemployment declined by 128.7 thousand and employment increased by 110.7 thousand.

Italy Jobless Rate Rises in September
