Italian Economy Contracts 0.1% QoQ in Q3

In the third quarter of 2013, Italy's seasonally and calendar adjusted GDP fell 0.1 percent with respect to the second quarter of 2013. It is the slowest contraction since Q1 of 2011, mainly due to a slight rebound in industrial output.

The quarterly fall is the result of a decrease in the value added in agriculture and services sectors which was partly offset by an increase in value added in industry.

The acquired growth at the end of the third quarter was registered at -1.9 percent. This means that if GDP posts a flat quarterly reading in the remaining period of the year, 2013's GDP will be down 1.9 percent from the previous year.
