The number of unemployed persons increased to 2.944 million in August from 2.867 million in July. Non-farm unemployment was 12.3 percent.
There were 26.313 million employed persons, down 0.4 percent from July and bringing the employment rate to 46.1 percent. Of those who were employed, 22.1 percent worked in agriculture, 20 percent was employed in industry, 7.5 percent in construction and 50.5 percent in the services sector.
The labour force participation rate decreased slightly by 0.1 percent to 51.2 percent in August. Meanwhile, 27.841 million people were out of the labor force.
