In October, Netherlands’ jobless rate stood at 8.5 percent, down from 8.6 percent in September. The number of unemployment benefits increased by 8 thousand, mainly due to a rise in educational and season-sensitive sectors.
The number of unemployed decreased by 11 thousand over the previous month and amounted to 674 thousand persons, which is the 8.5 percent of the workforce in the Netherlands. In July the unemployment rate reached its highest level after increasing for two years. In October, the unemployment dropped the most within men and youth, 1.6 percent and 2.1 percent respectively.
Unemployment benefits were up by 2 percent compared to September. In October, 58 thousand new benefits were provided and 50 thousand were terminated, most due to return to work.
