In October 2013, the volume of exports of goods was 0.6 percent higher than a year earlier after a small decline a month earlier. The volume of imports increased by 0.4 percent after a slight increase in September.
The value of exported goods amounted to € 37.9 billion, 2.1 percent less than a year earlier. The value of imports declined by 3.4 percent to € 33.7 billion. Compared with October of 2012, the trade surplus rose by 0.4 billion.
Just as in the preceding seven months, import and export prices were below the level of one year previously, 3.0 and 2.7 percent lower respectively. As a result, the terms of trade improved slightly from October of 2012.
