The unemployment rate in Japan edged up to 2.5 percent in November of 2018 from 2.4 percent in the previous month and slightly above market expectations of 2.4 percent. Meanwhile, the jobs-to-applicants ratio edged up to 1.63 from 1.62 in October to match expectations.
The number of unemployed rose 3 percent from a month earlier to 1.73 million in November and employment increased 0.4 percent to 67.13 million. The labour force went up 0.4 percent to 68.88 million and those detached from the labour force dropped 0.7 percent to 42.05 million.
Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, edged up to 3.5 percent in November from 3.4 percent in October.
A year earlier, the unemployment rate was higher at 2.7 percent.
