The economy in Belize shrank 0.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, following a downwardly revised 0.3 percent contraction in the previous period. It was the sharpest contraction since the last quarter of 2016, as output went down in hotels & restaurants (-11.1 percent vs 2.8 percent in Q2) and dropped further in utilities (-24.1 percent vs -20.8 percent) and fishing (-37 percent vs -7.2 percent). Also, output growth slowed in wholesale & retail trade (1.2 percent vs 2.2 percent); public administration (4.6 percent vs 5.9 percent) and other private services (2.6 percent vs 2.8 percent).
