Brazil's nominal budget deficit rose to BRL 75.8 billion in December of 2020 from BRL 38.4 billion in the same month of the previous year and well above market expectations of a BRL 19.1 billion shortfall. The central government deficit widened to BRL 64.9 billion from BRL 37 billion; and the state-owned enterprises account shifted to a gap of BRL 1.7 billion compared to a surplus of BRL 9.3 billion.
