The Egyptian government raised the price of 92 octane gasoline by about 18 percent to EGP 8 per liter, or USD 0.48 on July 5th, the fifth hike since 2014, as it hopes to receive the last USD 2 billion of the IMF loan in July. In 2016, the IMF approved a USD 12-billion loan request by Egypt on condition that Cairo raises taxes and reduces government subsidies. Gasoline Prices in Egypt averaged 0.31 USD/Liter from 2014 until 2019, reaching an all time high of 0.48 USD/Liter in July of 2019 and a record low of 0.19 USD/Liter in December of 2016.
