Georgia GDP Annual Growth Rate at 4.50 percent  
Georgia’s GDP expanded 4.5 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, easing from a 4.9 percent advance in the previous period. Growth was driven by transport (17.9 percent), real estate, renting and business activities (16.9 percent), hotels and restaurants (14.1 percent), electricity, gas and water supply (11.5 percent), communication (10.8 percent), health and social work (9.3 percent), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and personal and household goods (7.4 percent), other community, social and personal service activities (5.2 percent), financial intermediation (4.3 percent), public administration (3.0 percent) and agriculture, hunting and forestry; fishing (2.1 percent). On the other hand, education (-7.9 percent), mining and quarrying (-7.7 percent), construction (-4.6 percent), manufacturing (-4.5 percent) contributed negatively to growth.

The National Bank of Georgia raised its refinancing rate by 50bps to 7 percent on September 4th 2019, after inflation rate jumped to 4.9 percent, its highest since December of 2017. It is the first hike in interest rates this year and follows two cuts, in the January and in the March meeting. Policymakers added that inflation expectations are exacerbated by the depreciation of the nominal exchange rate and that monetary policy tightening will continue until the pressure weakens. The central bank expects inflation to remain above the 3 percent target this year and to start decline from March 2020.

On the other hand, housing & utilities prices slowed (1.6 percent vs 1.7 percent) while inflation was steady for furniture & household equipment (at 1.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.8 percent, from a flat reading in July.

Producer prices in Croatia went up 10.7 percent year-on-year in July of 2019, following a 6.4 percent increase in the previous month. It was the highest producer inflation since November 2017, as manufacturing prices advanced faster (12 percent vs 8.8 percent in June); in particular food products, beverages and tobacco (12.1percent vs 9.6 percent), basic metals and fabricated metal products (16.1 percent vs 8.5 percent) and pulp, paper and paper products (35.5 percent vs 27.3 percent). In addition, mining & quarrying cost rose further (19.3 percent vs 5.5 percent) while electrical energy, gas, steam and hot water prices declined at a softer pace (-1.4 percent vs -8.6 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 3.2 percent, following a 1.2 percent rise in the prior month.
