The gross domestic product of Israel expanded an annualized 3.1 percent in the three months to December of 2018, following an upwardly revised 2.8 percent advance in the previous period and above earlier estimates of 3 percent, final estimates showed. Private consumption (6.1 percent from 3.2 percent in Q3) advanced faster and fixed capital formation (10.4 percent from -6.6 percent) rebounded sharply. On the other hand, government expenditure (0.8 percent from 8.2 percent) increased at a softer pace. Meanwhile, net foreign demand contributed negatively to growth, as exports fell 4.2 percent (from 15.1 percent in Q3) and imports surged 10.9 percent (from -2.2 percent in Q3). On a quarterly basis, GDP advanced 0.8 percent, higher than preliminary estimates of 0.7 percent and following a 0.7 percent expansion in the third quarter. Considering 2018, the economy grew 3.3 percent, slowing from a 3.5 percent gain in 2017 and matching earlier estimates.
