Japan Industrial Output Rebounds in July
Industrial production in Japan rose by 1.3 percent month-over-month in July 2019, rebounding from a 3.3 percent fall in June, boosted by production of motor vehicles (2.1 percent vs -8.4 percent), chemicals excluding inorganic, organic chemicals, and medicine (4.7 percent vs -3.8 percent) and pulp, paper and paper products (7.5 percent vs -4 percent). In contrast, output fell for inorganic and organic chemicals (-3.9 percent vs 3.2 percent), petroleum and coal products (-3.8 percent vs 4.5 percent) and electrical machinery, and information and communication electronics equipment (-0.1 percent vs -4.8 percent). On a yearly basis, industrial production rose 0.7 percent in July, the first month of increase since January.

Japan Industrial Production Falls More than Expected
Industrial production in Japan declined 0.9 percent month-over-month in March 2019, compared to a 0.7 percent increase in February and market expectations of a 0.1 percent decline, preliminary data showed. Sharp declines were observed in motor vehicles (-3.4 percent vs +3.3 percent in February); production machinery (-6.7 percent vs +5.5 percent); fabricated metals (-4.4 percent vs +3.5 percent) and transport equipment (-3.6 percent vs +2.5 percent). In contrast, production rebounded for electronic parts and devices (+5.8 percent vs -4.9 percent); general-purpose and business oriented machinery (+5.1 percent vs -0.1 percent) and inorganic and organic chemicals (+4.8 percent vs -3.6 percent). On a yearly basis, industrial output fell 4.6 percent in March after a 1.1 percent drop in February. It was the sharpest fall since May 2015.

Japan Industrial Output Dips 1.0% YoY
Industrial production in Japan declined 1.0 percent in February 2019 following a 0.3 percent climb in the previous month and compared to market expectations of a 0.1 percent dip, preliminary data showed. The sharpest declines were observed in electronic parts & devices (-9.6 percent), utilities (-6.0 percent), production machinery (-5.6 percent), and iron & steel (-4.7 percent). In contrast, gains were mainly driven by transport equipment (7.9 percent), chemicals (4.7 percent), and fabricated metals (4.0 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production rose 1.4 percent following a 3.4 percent decline in January, beating market expectations of a 1.0 percent increase.
