On the other hand, prices slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.7 percent from 4.3 percent in May); transport (0.8 percent from 1 percent) and housing & utilities (2.1 percent from 2.3 percent); while inflation was steady for restaurant & hotels (2.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.3 percent, after a 1.4 percent gain in May.

Year-to-date, the country's trade gap widened to EUR 1,743.6 million from EUR 1,238.2 million, as imports surged 20.8 percent to EUR 3,041.1 million while exports rose only 1.4 percent to EUR 1,297.5 million.

On a monthly basis, industrial output increased by 1.3 percent, rebounding from a 0.6 percent drop in April.
