The central bank of Paraguay held its benchmark interest rate at a record low of 0.75 percent on 21 December 2020. The decision was unanimous. Policymakers said that several domestic economic activity indicators improved compared to the previous month but warned that economic activity remains well below 2019 levels. The Committee underscored that COVID-19 contagions are on the rise. Policymakers also noted that despite annual inflation rising to 2.2% in November from 1.7% in October, no inflationary pressures are expected in the short run.
