Romania's annual inflation rate increased to 4.0 percent in December 2019 from 3.8 percent in the previous month and compared to market estimates of 3.9 percent. This was the highest inflation rate since July, as prices rose faster for both food (5.1 percent vs 4.9 percent) and non-food products (3.3 percent vs 2.8 percent). At the same time, inflation was unchanged for services (4.2 percent vs 4.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.4 percent in December, following a 0.2 percent gain in November.
