The unemployment rate in Slovakia climbed to 7.7 percent in July of 2020 from 5 percent in the corresponding month of the previous year, in line with market expectations. It was the highest jobless rate since April of 2017, as the global pandemic continued to hit the labour market. The number of unemployed went up by 72.8 thousand from a year earlier to 209.8 thousand, the highest since April of 2017. In June, the jobless rate was slightly lower at 7.4 percent.

The unemployment rate in Slovakia jumped to 7.4 percent in June 2020 from 5 percent in the corresponding month of the previous year, but below market expectations of 8 percent. It was the highest jobless rate since April 2017, as the coronavirus pandemic hit the labour market. The number of unemployed persons went up by 66.9 thousand from a year earlier to 203.6 thousand, the highest since April 2017. In May, the jobless rate was lower at 7.2 percent.
