Sweden's household consumption rose 0.2 percent from a month earlier in February 2019, easing from an upwardly revised 1.1 percent increase in January, as spending advanced at a softer pace for transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles (1.2 percent vs 1.9 percent in January) and restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services (0.2 percent vs 0.7 percent). In addition, declines were seen in purchases of housing, electricity, gas and heating (-0.4 percent vs 0.5 percent), furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables (-0.5 percent vs -1.8 percent) and other goods and services (-4.5 percent vs 6.1 percent). By contrast, upward pressure came from food and beverages (0.1 percent vs -0.4 percent), clothing and footwear (5.2 percent vs 2.9 percent), post and telecommunications (3 percent vs -7.6 percent), and recreation and culture, goods and services (1 percent vs 0.7 percent). Household Spending in Sweden averaged 0.18 percent from 2000 until 2019, reaching an all time high of 3.20 percent in October of 2003 and a record low of -3.80 percent in November of 2003.

Household Spending in Sweden is expected to be -0.70 percent by the end of this quarter, according to Trading Economics global macro models and analysts expectations. Looking forward, we estimate Household Spending in Sweden to stand at 0.90 in 12 months time. In the long-term, the Sweden Household Consumption MoM is projected to trend around 0.40 percent in 2020, according to our econometric models.
