Vietnam Manufacturing PMI at 52.60  
The IHS Markit Vietnam Manufacturing PMI ticked up to 52.6 in July 2019 from 52.5 in the prior month. This was the highest PMI reading in seven months, as output grew for the third month running to the fastest since last November, and new orders advanced solidly. In addition, employment rose for the third time in four months, while input buying rose sharply, and at a broadly similar pace to the previous month. Meantime, export sales increased the least in 44 months, amid ongoing global trade dispute. On the price front, input cost inflation softened for the third successive month, with some panellists citing China as a source of falling prices. Also, selling prices were reduced for the eighth month running, though the rate of decline was only marginal. Finally, manufacturers remained upbeat, amid expectations of higher new orders over the next 12 months.

Meantime, arrivals from Australia fell 6.1 percent. Considering the first seven months of the year, tourist arrivals increased by 7.9 percent from a year ago to 9.8 million.

Vietnam Foreign Direct Investment at 10.55 USD Billion  
Foreign direct investment into Vietnam rose by nearly 7 percent year-on-year to USD 10.55 billion in January to July 2019. In addition, FDI pledges for new projects, increased capital and stake acquisitions - which indicate the size of future FDI disbursements – surged from a year earlier to USD 20.22 billion. The manufacturing and processing industry are set to receive the largest amount of investment (71.5 percent of total pledges), followed by real estate (7.3 percent) and wholesale and retail sector (5.4 percent). Hong Kong was the biggest source of FDI pledges in the first seven months of 2019 (26.9 percent of total pledges), followed by South Korea (15.5 percent) and China (12.3 percent).
