Albania's gross domestic product rebounded by 3 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2020, following a downwardly revised contraction of 2.8% percent in the previous period, due to increases in both private consumption (1.60 percent vs -3.40 percent in Q3) and public spending (3.88 percent vs -1.41 percent). In addition, fixed investment rose at a faster pace (10.86 percent vs 5.85 percent) while net foreign demand contributed negatively to growth as exports declined 12.77 percent (vs -31.78 percent in Q3) while imports fell at a softer 9.92 percent (vs -23.91 percent). On a quarterly basis, the economy expanded by 1.15 percent.

Albania's gross domestic product shrank by 3.65 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2020, following a record 7.20 percent contraction in the previous period, as the coronavirus crisis continues to hit activity and demand. Fixed investment recovered (4.14 percent vs -11.14 percent in Q2) while public spending contracted at a much softer pace (-3.86 percent vs -8.02 percent). On a quarterly basis, the economy rebounded 9.77 percent.

Albania GDP Contracts Most in Over 2 Decades
Albania's gross domestic product shrank by 10.23 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2020, the most since 1997 and following a 2.27 percent contraction in the previous period, as the COVID-19 crisis hit activity and demand. Household consumption slumped by 7.57 percent (vs 1.44 percent in Q1) and fixed investment plunged by 11.14 percent (vs -15.69 percent in Q1). Also, public spending declined by 0.65 percent (vs 0.43 percent in Q1) and net external demand contributed negatively to the GDP as exports fell more than imports.
