Brazil March Government Budget Gap More than Triples
Brazil recorded a nominal budget deficit of BRL 79.5 billion in March of 2023, wider than BRL 22.5 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. The central government deficit jumped to BRL 66.5 billion from BRL 32.7 billion in March 2022, and the regional governments' balance shifted to a shortfall of BRL 12.7 billion compared to a surplus of BRL 6.3 billion a year ago. In the meantime, the state-owned companies' gap rose to BRL 0.30 billion from BRL 0.12 billion.

Brazil Government Budget Gap Widens Sharply in February
Brazil posted a nominal budget deficit of BRL 90.6 billion in February of 2023, bigger than BRL 22.6 billion a year ago. It was the largest monthly nominal budget shortfall since last October, as the central government deficit ballooned to BRL 94.5 billion from BRL 38.8 billion a year ago. Concomitantly, the regional governments' surplus fell sharply to BRL 3.5 billion from BRL 14.1 billion in February 2022; and the state-owned companies' surplus decreased to BRL 0.5 billion from BRL 2.1 billion.
