The industrial confidence indicator in Bulgaria rose to 22 in January 2023 from 21 in the previous month. It was the highest reading since May 2021, as entrepreneurs grew more optimistic about their expectations on the current business situation of the enterprises in the industry and the business situation of the enterprises over the next 6 months in retail trade. However, their forecasts for export and production activity over the next 3 months were modest, while forecasts for the volume of sales and orders placed with suppliers over the same period turned unfavorable. The uncertain economic environment and shortage of labor continue to be the main obstacles to business development.
