Chile current account switched to a surplus of USD 752 million in the first quarter of 2023 from a deficit of USD 5,471 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. This was the first positive reading since the Q2 of 2020, as the goods surplus rose sharply to USD 7,586 million from USD 1,119 million a year ago; with exports increasing by 11% and imports falling by 16.2%. At the same time, the services gap shrank to USD 2,637 million from 3,888 million, while the secondary income surplus grew to USD 44 million from a shortfall of USD 5 million.
