Chile Posts Smallest Current Account Gap in Nearly 2 Years
The current account deficit in Chile narrowed to USD 4,993 million in the fourth quarter of 2022 from USD 8,344 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. This was the smallest current account shortfall since the second quarter of 2021, as the goods surplus rose sharply to USD 3,659 million from USD 1,355 million a year ago; with exports (-1.9%) falling much less than imports (-11.4%). At the same time, the services gap shrank to USD 3,717 million from 3,859 million; and the second account balance shifted to a surplus of USD 119 million from a shortfall of USD 1,489 million. Meanwhile, the primary income deficit rose to USD 5,054 million from USD 4,352 million. The country posted a current account deficit of USD 27,102 million in 2022, or 9% of the GDP, compared to USD 23,193 million a year ago.

Chile Current Account Gap Widens in Q3
The current account deficit in Chile widened to USD 9,428 million in the third quarter of 2022 from USD 6,869 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. The goods and services deficit increased to USD 4,955 million from USD 2,365 million, while the primary income shortfall rose to USD 4,481 million from USD 4,485 million a year ago.
