The economy of Colombia grew a record 11.8 percent year-on-year in March of 2021, rebounding from a revised 3.6 percent contraction in the previous month. Output rebounded for industrial activities (24.9 percent vs -5.9 percent in February), primary activities (4.0 percent vs -9.4 percent) and services (10.2 percent vs -1.8 percent). On a monthly basis, economic activity jumped 6.1 percent in March, following a 0.9 percent gain in the prior month.

Colombia Economic Activity Contracts at a Softer Pace in February
The economy of Colombia shrank 3.5 percent year-on-year in February 2021, after declining a revised 4.3 percent in the previous month. Production decreased at a softer rate for industrial (-7.3 percent vs -9.8 percent in January) and services activities (-1.6 percent vs -2.4 percent). Meanwhile, primary activities plunged 8.5 percent, following a 7.8 percent drop in the prior month. On a monthly basis, economic activity rebounded 2.5 percent from a 1.1 percent drop in January.

Colombia Economic Activity Falls Further
The economy of Colombia shrank 4.6 percent year-on-year in January of 2021, following a 2.5 percent decline in the previous month. It was the sharpest contraction in three months, as rising COVID cases in South America and slow vaccine rollouts dented confidence. The decline was led by industrial activity, down 9.8 percent on an annual basis (vs -10.5 percent in December). Meanwhile, services declined 2.8 percent after declining 0.1 percent in the previous month. On a monthly basis, economic activity declined a sharp 1.5 percent after expanding 1.5 percent in December.
