Imports to Hong Kong slipped 23.5% to $399.7 billion in December 2022, following a 20.3% drop in the previous month. It was the largest decline since January 2009, as purchases decreased notably for electrical machinery, appliances and parts (-17.8% to $190.9 billion), telecommunications, sound recording and reproducing equipment (-42.8% to $44 billion), and office machines and automatic data processing machines (-35.7% to $32.2 billion). Among main suppliers, decrease in imports was led by mainland China (-28.2%), followed by Taiwan (-14.1%), Singapore (-12%) and South Korea (-43.3%).
