The economy of Kazakhstan expanded by 5.0 percent year-on-year in May of 2021, following a near 10-year high of 11.7 percent in the prior month. Economic activity was mainly lifted by industrial production (3.6 percent vs 3.0 percent in April); retail trade (13.3 percent vs 41.7 percent); construction works (7.4 percent vs 11.0 percent); agricultural, forestry, and fishing activities (3.3 percent vs 3.2 percent); and communication services (13.8 percent vs 14.8 percent). Meanwhile, fixed capital investment fell 3.3 percent in May, following a 3.0 percent increase in April.
