Kyrgyzstan GDP Shrinks 7.6% YoY in January
Kyrgyzstan's economy contracted 7.6 percent year-on-year in January of 2021 compared to a 1.8 percent growth a year earlier, a preliminary estimate showed. The ongoing pandemic crisis continued to hit the goods-producing industries (-9.3 percent), construction (-22.5 percent) and services (-6.3 percent).

The economy of Kyrgyzstan contracted 8.1 percent year-on-year in the January-November period of 2020, compared to a 4.9 percent growth in the same period a year ago, as the pandemic crisis continued to weigh on economic activity. The main negative contributions came from industry, construction and services. Meanwhile, agricultural activity expanded slightly.

The economy of Kyrgyzstan shrank 7.4 percent year-on-year in the January-October period of 2020, compared to a 5.6 percent growth in the same period a year ago, as the pandemic crisis continued to weigh on economic activity. The main negative contributions came from wholesale & retail trade (-16 percent); construction (-11.5 percent) and industrial activity (-3.6 percent). On a more positive note, agriculture grew 0.8 percent.

Kyrgyzstan GDP Shrinks 6.1% YoY in January-July
Kyrgyzstan's economy shrank 6.1 percent year-on-year in January-July of 2020, after growing 6.4 percent in the same period a year earlier. It was the sharpest contraction in four years, as the coronavirus pandemic hit the economy. The services sector was the most affected, shrinking by 9.6 percent, in particular hotels & restaurants (-46.9 percent), transportation activities (-34.9 percent) and wholesale & retail trade (-17.1 percent). Also, goods-producing industries contracted 1.6 percent, namely construction (-8.9 percent), manufacturing (-0.9 percent) and mining (-4.2 percent).
