It was the largest contraction since August 2021, as output fell for machinery (-5.7% vs 1.3% in October), electronics (-3.9% vs -0.7%), chemical products (-2.7% vs -4.1%) and transport (-1.8% vs -1.6%). At the same time, output for repair and installation rose 0.5%, easing sharply from a 17.1% gain a month earlier. Dutch Manufacturing Drops 0.4% in October
The manufacturing production in the Netherlands fell 0.4 percent month-on-month in October of 2022, reversing from an upwardly revised 0.7 percent rise in the previous month. Output contracted for transport (-1.8 percent vs 12.0 percent in September), food industry (-1.5 percent vs 2.1 percent), and metal products (-0.9 percent vs 1.9 percent) while output of chemical products shrank faster (-3.7 percent vs -1.8 percent). By contrast, there were rebounds in the output of both machinery (1.9 percent vs -2.5 percent) and repair and installation (16.3 percent vs -2.1 percent). On a yearly basis, the manufacturing production expanded 3.3 percent, slowing from an upwardly revised 5.2 percent growth in September.

Dutch Manufacturing Output Rebounds
The manufacturing production in the Netherlands rose 0.5 percent month-on-month in September of 2022, recovering from a 1.7 percent drop in the previous month. Output bounced back for transport (11.5 percent vs -14.4 percent in August), food industry (2.5 percent vs -1.8 percent), and metal products (0.8 percent vs -3.2 percent). On the flip side, there were falls in the output of machinery (-2.4 percent vs 1.2 percent), chemical products (-2.1 percent vs 0.6 percent), and repair and installation (-1.5 percent vs -0.4 percent). On a yearly basis, the manufacturing production grew 4.6 percent, easing from a 5.4 percent gain in August.
