Romania’s annual inflation rate fell to 15.07% in January 2023 from 16.37% in the previous month, below market expectations of 15.8%. This was the lowest print since last July, mainly due to a slowdown in cost of non-food products (11.88% vs 14.95% in December). Meantime, prices accelerated for both food products (22.47% vs 22.05%) and services (10.27% vs 9.78%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.34%, the least since November 2021, after a 0.37% gain in December.

Romania’s annual inflation rate eased to 16.37% in December 2022, from 16.76% in the previous month and slightly below market expectations of 16.6%. Prices for non-food products slowed (14.95% vs 16.17% in November), while costs accelerated for food products (22.05% vs 21.55%) and services (9.78% vs 9.51%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 0.37%, easing from a 1.25% rise in November.
