Slovakia Jobless Rate Edges Down in October
Slovakia's unemployment rate dropped to 5.1% in October 2023 from 5.9% in the corresponding period of 2022, marking a return to pre-crisis levels. Across all regions, unemployment has declined, with the number of jobless individuals decreasing by 18,072 compared to the previous year, reaching a nearly 4-year low of 142,194. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor in Slovakia said it is focusing on supporting municipalities affected by the recent earthquake.
Slovakia Unemployment Returns to Pre-Crisis Levels
The unemployment rate in Slovakia fell to 5.1% in May 2023 from 5.3% in April 2022, returning to pre-crisis levels, helped by legislative changes in activation work. The overall unemployment has fallen in all regions, as well as in the 15 districts with the highest rates, and is expected to continue easing due to the summer season of work in agriculture, construction, and tourism. Meanwhile, the number of jobless decreased by 29,138 over the previous year to an over 4-year low of 142,309.

The unemployment rate in Slovakia fell to 5.3% in April 2023 from 6.5% in April 2022 and was below market estimates of 5.6%, helped by legislative changes in activation work, which entered into force earlier in the period. It was the lowest jobless rate since March 2020, as the number of unemployed decreased by 27,544 over the previous year to 17-month low of 148,989.
