Compared to the previous year, household spending increased 0.5%, the first rise since October 2022, mainly due to a 24.8% jump in restaurants, cafes, hotels & other accommodation services. On the other hand, retail trade, mostly food and beverages made the biggest downward contribution (-4%).

Household consumption in Sweden fell by 0.8% month-over-month in December of 2022, following a downwardly revised flat reading in November. It was the steepest decline since July 2022. Compared to the previous year, household spending dropped 1.8%, and marking the second consecutive month of decline, mainly due to a 4.7% plunge in food and beverages. On the other hand, transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles made the biggest upward contribution (+ 5%).
