Sweden Household Consumption Retreats in June
Household consumption in Sweden went down 0.4% month-over-month in June of 2022, the first decline in five months. Compared to the previous year, consumption increased 3.9%, following a 6.4% rise in May, with spending on recreation and culture (18.4%) making the biggest upward contribution while spending on furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables dropped 10%.

Swedish Personal Spending Rises for 4th Month
Household consumption in Sweden increased by 0.7 percent month-over-month in May of 2022, following an upwardly revised 0.4 percent gain in the previous month. This was the fourth straight month of rises in personal spending and the steepest gain since November 2021, as consumption strengthened further following an improvement in COVID-19 situation. Compared to May 2021, spending grew by 5.2 percent, with transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles accounting for the largest positive contribution and rising 14 percent. In contrast, spending on furniture furnishings, household equipment and consumables fell 8 percent.
