Fuel accounts for 19 percent, parts of electronic appliances for 11 percent, materials of base metal for 9 percent, and chemicals for 5.5 percent. Machinery, equipment and supplies such as computers and mechanical represent 25 percent of total imports, and consumer goods account for 8 percent. Main import partners are Japan (20 percent of total imports), China (15 percent) and the European Union (8 percent). Others include the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and the United States.

Imports to Thailand fell 7.1 percent year-on-year to USD 24.94 billion in March 2023, above market forecasts of a 4.7 percent drop and reversing a 1.1 percent rise a month earlier. It was the first decline in imports since January, as domestic demand deteriorated amid the weakening baht against the US dollar. For the first quarter of the year, the country's imports edged down by 0.5 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. In 2022, purchases surged by 13.6 percent.

Imports to Thailand climbed by 1.1 percent year-on-year to USD 23.49 billion in February 2023, below market forecasts of a 2.1 percent growth, after a 5.5 percent rise a month earlier. It was the second straight month of increase in imports, amid signs of improved domestic demand as the economy fully recovered from pandemic disruptions. Considering the first two months of the year, the country's imports slumped 34.33 percent from a year earlier to USD 48.39 billion. In 2022, purchases surged by 13.6 percent.
